Surrogacy, when a woman carries a child on behalf of others, is today a medicalized practice that is particularly controversial. Subject of many debates, it remains however poorly documented scientifically. Indeed, we know little about the possibilities of surrogacy and its organization in other countries or on the experience of surrogates and intended parents. To understand this practice, its development worldwide and its impacts, we are organizing an international scientific conference in which three main issues will be discussed: surrogacy regulations in different political, religious and social contexts; representations and experiences of surrogacy protagonists; and the situation in France. This conference will bring together French and international researchers working on the issue, and will cover the situation in 13 countries and region.
The conference is in English and French with simultaneous translation.
